Saregama to focus on digital in 2013

MUMBAI: Music major Saregama will consolidate its position and investment in the digital space in 2013, a top official has said. The label has 15-20 per cent share in the digital music market, worth approximately Rs 6 billion, and establishing its presence in the nascent but exciting vertical will be a priority for the company which has set goals to become a ‘digital major’ in the next two years.

Leading global artistes to perform at third Mahindra Blues fest

MUMBAI: The Mahindra Group has announced the third edition of its popular Mahindra Blues festival with a stellar line-up of artistes from the global blues industry scheduled to perform on 16-17 February 2013 at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai. Indian classical music stalwarts to perform at Swaranjali fest

MUMBAI: Renowned Indian classical music stalwarts including Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit Mukul Shivputra, Pandit Vikku Vinayakram, Selva Ganesh and Taufiq Qureshi will perform at the Swaranjali music fest to be held from 3-5 January 2013 at Nehru Centre, Mumbai. The three day music fest will witness the legends coming together to pay tribute to the late stalwarts of Hindustani vocalists Pandit Suresh Haldankar, Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and Pandit C R Vyas.

CRS to get awards at National Sammelan in February

NEW DELHI: Community Radio Stations are to get awards in five categories during the third National Community Radio Sammelan in February next year. Three awards will be given in each category, comprising cash awards of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. A jury constituted by the Ministry will decide which stations deserve to be awarded.

Worldwide Records acquires audio rights of Bandook; Kapil Sibal pens lyrics

MUMBAI: Union minister for Communications and Information Technology Kapil Sibal has turned lyricist for bollywood film Bandook. Worldwide Records has acquired the music rights for the film. Sibal has penned down song titled 'Tu Jaldi Bata De' rendered  by Bandana Sharma & Siddharth Hazarika and composed by Nikhil Kamath. The music of the film is composed by Kamath & Lavan-Veeral and includes songs by late Jagjit Singh, Rekha Bhardwaj, Altaf Raja, Nikhil Kamath, Tori Dattaroy, Raju Bhavsar, Lavan and Shahid Mallya.

Soul singer Fontella Bass dies at 72

MUMBAI: American soul singer, Fontella Bass has died of complications following a heart attack. Bass 72, died in hospice care on the night of 26 December from complications of a heart attack she suffered three weeks ago, her daughter, Neuka Mitchell said. Bass had also suffered from strokes in recent years. She first found success in a duet with Bobby McClure on Don't Mess Up a Good Thing and You'll Miss Me (When I'm Gone). She had topped the R&B chart in 1965 with her  hit single 'Rescue Me'.
