Radio Sarang launches legal show

MUMBAI: Mangalore based community radio station by St. Aloysius College- Radio Sarang 107.8 has introduced a new dimension to their programming by airing a phone-in program this month.

Known as Kaanoonu Kacheri" (Legal Cell), it is currently a weekly phone-in program in collaboration with a local law college and practising advocates. Explains St Aloysius head of department of Mass Communication and Journalism and Sarang director Dr Richard Rego, We introduced the slot to create awareness about the legal procedure and educate masses on legal problems. We have a weekly half an hour broadcast every Wednesday at 6pm and plan to increase it.... The show is currently broadcasted in Kannada and would include Tulu and Konkani shortly.

The principal of the law college moderates the discussion where callers can call in with their law related queries. We have new issues every week, so far we had discussions on Dowry Prohibition Act, Right to information, termination of medical pregnancy, women harassment etc,... adds Rego.

Radioandmusic.com has earlier mentioned that Radio Sarang 107.8 MHz had approached the Wireless planning and coordination (WPC) wing of the Ministry of Communications for rectifying technical issues in their frequency. Although we have referred the issue to the I&B, we have not received any acknowledgement from the ministry. We are still facing transmission issues with interference in our broadcast and would prefer change in frequency as our current frequency is in the end of the spectrum....
