Sonu Nigam has his plate full for 2013

MUMBAI: Multi-faceted Sonu Nigam has his platter full for 2013, but the mellifluous playback singer is experimenting his hands on composing this year. After Girish Malik-directed film ‘Jal’, the versatile singer is composing for two Bollywood films ‘Super se Upar’ and an untitled film with Bickram Gosh this year.

'Jal' comprises of classical songs with singers like Shubha Mudgal, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan and Susanne while ‘Super se Upar’ has contemporary tunes. Both the movies are slated to be out by April-May. He has composed music in the past for albums like ‘Chanda Ki Doli’, ‘Tu Kab Ye Janegi’, ‘Mumbai Anthem’, ‘Icchapurti Gayatri Mantras’ and 'Let’s go for the Glory'.

Nigam has also rendered a song for soon to be released Hindi dubbed version of the Japanese animation film ‘The Mystical Laws’. The song titled 'Aa chale' was recorded 15 days back on compositions of famous Sri Lankan music duo of Bathiya and Santhush. The film directed by Isamu Imakake is also nominated as the Best Animated Feature for 85th Oscars 2013. The movie has music composition by Yuichi Mizusawa. It is set to release in March.

“We are so excited by this collaboration with Sonu Nigam. The soul that Sonu brings to the song is something we had hoped for and that’s what he has delivered. He truly is a fantastic talent” says Bathiya Jayakodi.

The song which has an upbeat and a commercial feel to it, however talks about how the world will be a far safer and better place if we all learn to stay united. This is the first song composed by the Sri Lankan duo which will have a full scale release in India.

Moreover, Nigam has rendered for Kannada movie ‘Mynaa’, ‘Simpallaag Ond Love Story’ and Malayalam movie '8.20'. His Hindi musical projects include ‘Zila Ghaziabad’, ‘Bloody Isshq’ and 'The Shiva Trilogy'.  He has also rendered for 'Chashme Buddoor', remake of 1981 Chashme Buddoor. Music of the film is given by duo Sajid-Wajid with lyrics written by Jalees Sherwani and Neelesh Mishra.

His international project with music label Universal Music is set to release next month. Earlier, Nigam had released the collaborative single ‘Indian Levels’ with international electronic dance music (EDM) sensation Avicii. The title for the album is ‘India’ and it comprises of seven-eight tracks.

At just 39, Nigam has become a name to reckon with in Indian Playback singing. The versatile singer has received numerous accolades and appreciation and has been ruling in playback singing for over two decades. Besides Hindi, the versatile singer has also rendered in Kannada, Assamese, Bengali, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, English, Bhojpuri, Urdu, Nepali, Chhattisgarhi, Malayalam and Marathi. He has also featured In ‘The Top 5 Celeb 100’ and Forbes India January 2013 list.

Amidst all tours and concerts, Nigam performed at Indian music award functions, Mirchi Music Awards 2013 on 7 February. He also bagged the award for male vocalist of the year.Sources close to Nigam said, “Nigam is emotionally connected with the song ‘Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin’ from Agneepath. He has bagged many awards for this track including Zee Cine awards and now Radio Mirchi music award.  He sings this song to special audience only and I believe the song has set new milestones for singers.”
