How Post Malone, Tank God and 21 Savage came together for 'Rockstar'

MUMBAI: Post Malone’s Rockstar featuring 21 Savage is a creation of a biology student, Tank God who majored from the University of Hartford in Connecticut and made the record-breaking beat during his final exams. The song that debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and broke Apple Music’s single week streaming record was straight out of his hard drive.

Tank God made three beats post his exams including an 808 heavy cut with dark, somber melodies. Tank God then headed to New York and met with Post Malone. They sat down together to make chartbuster Rockstar. The snippet of the first draft was shared by Post Malone on Twitter which made him realize that he needed someone to bring the exact attitude that the song has right now. This is when 21 Savage dropped in to add his touch to Post Malone’s Rockstar.

In an interview with Pigeons and Planes, Tank God shares, “Everybody was shocked at how fast everything came together and how random it all was. It was just one day, someone was like, Yo, 21 might be on it. Then the next day 21 was on it. That was some crazy shit.”

After being engineered by Louis Bell, the song was released on 15 September, 2017. This was the highest charting single of Post Malone’s career. Rockstar topped Billboard's Digital Song Sales chart in its first week, with 80,000 downloads sold.

Rockstar also entered the R&B/Hip Hop Single Sales Charts at number one this week.
