T-Series bags top notch releases - Kites, 3 Idiots, Blue

MUMBAI: T-Series has acquired the music rights of the much hyped forthcoming musical film from the Rakesh Roshan stable, Kites. The music label now has three big releases for the second half of 2009. Apart from Kites, the company has snapped up rights of Blue and 3 Idiots too.

Among the films lined up, Blue is slated for an October release, 3 Idiots in December and Kites in January.

The music rights of Kites were supposedly acquired by Big Music. Big Music CEO Kulmeet Makkar had confirmed with radioandmusic.com about the acquisition of the music along with the movie rights acquired by Big Pictures last week  Similarly, there were talks that Sony Music was in talks with Vidhu Vinod Chopra for the music rights of his latest offering- 3 idiots. Now, it turns out that T-Series has bagged the rights.

Confirming the acquisitions T-Series president – marketing, media and publishing (TV) Vinod Bhanushali, We acquire about 75 per cent of the films releasing in a year and have a good equation with the industry. Also, we follow strong marketing, promotions and are equipped with strong distribution network across the country....

The music label is innovating with the promotional activities for its lineup. On the television front, T-Series has joined hands with NDTV's Imagine Showbiz for airing their content. We have started the T-Series Top 5, where all T-Series acquisitions are played in continuity. As we have around 40 films in a year, there are at least four films being promoted at any given time. So, our pitch while approaching the channel was consistency of products lined up.... T-Series has tied up for an entire year and the channel airs 17 T-Series Top 5 slots in a day.

Starting with Delhi-6, the Bollywood music acquired by T-Series in the first half included Victory, Dev D, Jumbo, Chandni Chowk, Mere khwabon mein jo aaye, Jai veeru, Dhoondte reh jaoge, 8X10 Tasveer, Runway, Gulaal. among others. However, the first half wasn't that promising for the label due to the prolonged multiplex strike. Elaborates Bhanushali, As the strike extended for three months, everyone connected to the film business faced losses. With the delay in film line up, there was a pressure to promote each film within the available time. But we have a strong line up for the second half and would hit bull's eye....

The second half started with Jashnn, Kaminey, Agyaat, Runway, Life Partner, Luck, Wanted, Phir Kabhi, Morning walk, Shortkut, Kissan.

T-Series would soon be airing promos of Himesh Reshammiya starring Radio. Starting from September first week, the songs will first hit the radio stations exclusively and would be followed by television. Radio seems to be getting priority with music labels for promoting their product. Explains Bhanushali, Getting first break on radio helps getting instant attention from the listeners and we would then pad it with television. Radio is emerging as a stand alone medium and the film makers are trusting on the medium for promotions....

On the non-film front, the company had launched Tulsi Kumar's album. By this year end, T-Series would be launching an album by Adnan Sami and a Hanuman Chalisa audio by Lata Mangeshkar.
