Saregama launches sufi rock album of Star Voice Of India 'Abhas Joshi'

MUMBAI: Saregama India has released sufi rock album of young talented Joshi brothers ‘Abhas and Shreyas’.  Swanand Kirkire and Vinay Shukla launched the album ‘Thagni’ in FirangI Pani, Andheri yesterday.

The album consists of seven songs based on the dohas of legendary saint and poet Sant Kabir.  The duo who has composed and sung for the album performed live at the launch. Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Shreyas said, “We have never opted for this kind of music before, as we always sang spiritual songs.” The duo has worked on various jingles documentary films and sung for music directors like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Anand Raj Anand, Aadesh Shrivastav, Monty Sharma. “We used to sing together but after Abhas won Saregama, he came in different stature.”

Abhas is the winner of 2004 Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Kids Special. He has also participated and was jury award winner for best singer in Amul Star Voice of India season 1. This was followed by anchoring of a series of TV shows like ‘Amul Star Voice of India Chhote Ustaad’ Season 1 & 2 and ‘Amul Music Ka Maha Muqabla’ and ‘Bharat ki Shaan’.

The duo is looking forward for live gigs and will soon be discussing ways to promote their album in multi-cities. They are currently working on a Bollywood Movie project with Shatrughan Sinha & Rekha ‘Aaj  Phir Jeene Kee Tamanna  Hai’.

Saregama and the duo ‘Abhas and Shreyas’ have signed in for a year half deal, in which profit will be divided. Saregama India Ltd business head Adarsh Gupta said, “The album Thagni is a  novel concept. It is a contemporary representation of the classic work of Sant Kabir that will capture the hearts of all Kabir followers and promises to  appeal to the younger generation.  Also this is a formal first launch of two of the most promising singers of the future.”
