Radio One Bangalore partners police car pooling initiative

BANGALORE:  "Lets Pool In", a public seeking car pooling initiative by Radio One and CommuteEasy in partnership with Bangalore Traffic Police to help citizens commute safe and fast was announced in Bangalore.

The initiative was launched in the presence of Bangalore Traffic Police Additional CP (Traffic), Praveen Sood,   CommuteEasy  Founder Vipul Kasera, and Radio One station head Shyju Varkey  The event also saw commentator Charu Sharma, cricketer Robin Uthappa and Anu Prabhakar participate in the movement by traveling together to the launch venue.

Speaking at the launch of the "Lets Pool In" initiative, Sood said, "Bangalore city is getting choked by  the increasing number of vehicles year after year. We have already reached a figure of 3.2 million in a population of six million as against Mumbai which has only 1.8 million vehicles in a population of 12 million. No doubt, the reason for this abnormally large number of private vehicles is the absence of adequate and efficient public transport system; however we can reduce our agony by encouraging initiatives like car-pooling."

Says Varkey, "We think it's time to stop talking and start acting. Traffic congestion is not a problem that can be addressed indefinitely by building more roads or adding more lanes. We need transportation alternatives that will reduce the number of cars on the city roads. Fewer cars mean lower emissions, also less carbon foot prints. If everyone left their car behind for at least one trip each week, traffic jams would be a thing of past in the city. We want Bangaloreans to know that small individual changes can make a huge difference."
