Guitarist Christophe Laney delights Mumbai

MUMBAI: Some 100 odd guitar enthusiasts gathered to watch renowned guitarist Christophe Laney for an up close session in Mumbai on 29 October, 2009. The French musician is presently in India to promote the Laney brand, and conduct workshops for guitar enthusiasts.

Laney in his two hour workshop demonstrated and spoke at length about various guitar techniques and gave tips to the curious musicians in his inherent humorous style. The session was arranged by one of India's popular music stores, Furtados Music India Pvt Ltd (FMIL) and Music brand Laney.

Christophe started playing at thirteen after discovering Alan Holdsworth with Jean-Luc Ponty, AC/DC's Back in black' and Van Halen. In his career, Christophe has played and recorded with different bands including Gn1 and Temple. Now 38, his main projects are M1rglbl, a funny jazz/metal trio besides conducting master classes at different music academies around the world.

Mumbai's guitar enthusiasts made the most of his presence by asking him about various techniques like shredding, slapping, arpeggios and jamming. The virtuoso musician, who is at par with guitarists like Joe Satriani and Steve Vai performed guitar pieces to demonstrate some tricky guitar techniques and styles. One of his core suggestions to musicians present was to find their own unique ability on guitar, take inspiration from instruments other than guitar for ideas and to â€?sing the notes' in order to develop your ear for various scales and modes – point noted Sir!

Don't miss his workshops in Bangalore (30 Oct) and Delhi (31 Oct, 2009)
