Elvis Presley's songwriter Billy Strange passes away

MUMBAI: Legendary songwriter and guitarist Billy Strange who along with Elvis Presley left an incredible mark on rock music passed away on 22 February in Nashville.

Born in 1930, Strange began his music career co-writing songs like 'A Little Less Conversation' & 'Memories' for Elvis Presley and 'Limbo Rock' for fellow rocker Chubby Checker.

The remix of ‘A Little Less Conversation’ by Junkie XL in 2001 became a world-wide hit, topping the singles charts in nine countries and was awarded certifications in ten countries by 2003. The single was originally written for Presley 1968 film ‘Live a Little, Love a Little.’

Strange collaborated with renowned singer Nancy Sinatra for her 1967 James Bond theme ‘You Only Live Twice’ and also  arranged music for ‘Somethin' Stupid’ – a duet with her father Frank Sinatra.  One of his most famous performances is on Nancy Sinatra's version of Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down).

Sinatra who was heartbroken after learning about the death of her longtime collaborator posted on social networking site, “My dear friend, the legendary guitarist/arranger Billy Strange passed away this morning in Nashville. My heart is shattered."

The Rockabilly Hall of Fame and Musicians Hall of Fame inductee also collaborated with other rock legends like Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Willie Nelson, Beach boys and Nat King Cole. The legend recently also re-united American rock band Beach Boys.
