Times Music presents 'The Music of Superstar India' by Shobhaa D?® and MANA

MUMBAI: The album features a treat to its listeners and others as Shobhaa D?© herself reads few passages from her book, and the proceeds of the album will be donated to the Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA)

Times Music and Reliance Industries Limited proudly presents 'The Music of Superstar India' by Shobhaa D?© along with Miti Adhikari and Neel Adhikari (a.k.a. MANA). It is the first musical album which has been inspired by a book. An album about a nation (and a woman) turning sixty. After the launch of the book 'Superstar India', for the author – Shobhaa D?© – words were just not enough. A feeling of emptiness still lingered about. The circle had to be completed. A not-just-another-album had to be created. These are pages that are truly worth humming to.

Reliance Industries Limited has sponsored this project in recognition of the uniqueness of the album and the cause for which it has been done. A special thanks to Kaushik Roy of Reliance for producing the album and the music video.

The album is music for the soul of India and music from the soul of India. It features melodic, soulful Indian classical renderings and earthy songs by the Bauls of Bengal and the Langas of Rajasthan, who for generations have kept the rich tradition of their art alive and sing because they must... because music is their life. Though the songs are traditional and Indian the presentation by MANA is very contemporary - ranging from Lounge to Trance, from Reggae to Club.

MANA is a Music production duo. Two cousins,Miti from London, a sound engineer and programmer who has worked with Coldplay, Oasis, Beyonce, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Radiohead amongst others, while Neel is asinger songwriterwith two bands, Span and Five Little Indiansand is also trained in Indian classical music.

Thevoiceswere recorded in India and the album was arranged and mixed in London. The album brings together artistes like Pt. Santanu Bandyopadhyay from the Bishnupur gharana, Rabi Das Baul, Sakur Khan Langa, Mubarak Khan Langa, Aslam Khan Langa, Aseen Khan Langa, Sarvar Khan Langa, Sadik Khan Langa. Compositions, programming and arrangements have been done by MANA: Miti Adhikari and Neel Adhikari featuring songs like I am India, Naina, Hichki in the Club, Mohan Murli, Ma (The Gift), and You're invited.

The proceeds of the album will be donated to the Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA). CPAA was started in 1969 mainly to provide financial assistance to needy cancer patients. Over the last thirty years the organisation has expanded its mission to address the root cause of the exponential increase in cancer cases in India, namely that of lack of knowledge and information. CPAA does not treat cancer but complements the work being done by medical practitioners and hospitals, concentrating on education and awareness, early detection, insurance, support to treatment, guidance and counseling and rehabilitation or Total Management of Cancer....
