DD's New Year musical bonanza strikes youth

MUMBAI: On the eve of New Year, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar presented a musical bash "Enter 2009-a musical bonanza" with exhilarating performances by young singers who presented a bouquet of 14 soulful compositions including remix of bollywood numbers, songs in Kashmiri, Dogri, Ladhaki, Gojri and Pahari.

The one-hour musical package that was telecast on December 31 bid farewell and refreshed the memories of the year gone by and welcomed the year 2009 with hope and optimism.

A song based on Kashmiri rouf composed by Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat, a ladhaki dramatised song composed by Morup Nangyal and a farewell song to year 2008 composed by Yawar Habib were the star attractions of the evening.

The programme was appreciated for its beautiful sets, lightening and colourful presentation with set designer and music composer Ravi Bhan getting appreciation for his work.

According to the officials at DDK Srinagar the musical bonanza was conceived for the young audience which made it a huge success among the youth.

"From singers, composers and comparers the programme was all in all a youth affair. Even the sets and the visual appeal of the musical feast was colourfull with singers performing on fast musical instruments including guitars, drums, saxophone and electronic synthesizers. The programme was aimed at youth who wait anxiously for the New Year and always prefer to some form of music during celebration," said Producer/ Director of the programme Mufti Riyaz.

The programme was compared by two anchors Shabir Hakak and Tasaduq Wani who enthralled the viewers with their humorous satires.

The anchors commented on issues ranging from tall promises made by politicians during elections to violation of anti-smoking law by smokers at public places and need for conservation of electricity.

Besides young singers like Shazia Bashir, King Pal Sing and Ajaz Rah others who performed during the programme include Khalid, Manzoor Ahmed, Suleman Khan, Mohi-ud-din, Mudasir and Younus Khan.

The programme was sponsored by LIC Jeewan aastha, PDD and Fat Go.
