Vodafone joins the telco entertainment content app bandwagon

MUMBAI: Vodafone India, one of India’s largest telecom service providers, today announced a free subscription of its Vodafone Play app to all customers till 31 December 2016.

With Reliance's Jio Music, Airtel's Wynk and the proposed music app service by Idea Cellular, the competition in the music app space among the telecom providers in the country appears to be hotting up.

Vodafone Play will bring together videos, movies, TV shows and music. Over 180 live TV channels including popular film and entertainment channels are part of the deal. It boasts a formidable music library with songs in Hindi, English and several regional languages. 'Listen to any music to suit your mood – romantic numbers, party hits, devotional tracks, evergreen classics – and dip into endless playlists of your favorite singers and superstars' says a company release.

The launch USP appears to be the live telecast of Vodafone Aagomoni - the annual nightlong grand musical extravaganza in Kolkata.

According to Vodafone India commercial director Sandeep Kataria,“People are increasingly watching more videos and listening to music on their smartphones. Instead of downloading multiple apps, all they need is to download and use Vodafone Play that offers the best of content digitally for all their entertainment requirements."

Meanwhile, Jio is offering millions of HD songs in over 20 languages. The service is free for one year from subscription. Wynk Music, on the other hand, is a free music download app with over 2.5 million songs across Indian and International music. Its huge music library covers all genres namely Bollywood, Pop, Rock, Bhangra, Devotional, Emotional, Romantic, Party, Old Romantic retro songs. It also includes a huge library of regional music ranging from Punjabi songs, Tamil songs and music in other regional languages such as Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, and Malayalam.

Idea Cellular will start offering music services with the dawn of the year 2017.Idea Music will offer thousands of original songs, international tracks of all genres and regional language content ranging from Tamil in the south to Bengali in the east. The catalogue will also feature popular hits from the legends of the yesteryears and the current era.
