Radiowalla.in to broadcast Anna Hazare's movement

NEW DELHI: India's first internet radio platform www.Radiowalla.in will broadcast all the speeches live from Jantar Mantar as a service to the global Indian audience who are interested in the Anna Hazare led agitation against corruption in India. Radiowalla.in, a platform that streams indigenously created linear radio stations across music and talk genres, is now embarking on a full fledged news/talk radio station launch. India, China account for 35 per cent of active mobile users: report

MUMBAI: Two of the world’s biggest handset markets, India and China account for 35 per cent of the world’s 4.1 billion active mobile users, according to the Ericsson Traffic and Market Data Report. The report stated that the global mobile penetration has significantly increased to 85 per cent with the estimated 180 million net additions in Q4 (last quarter) of 2011 and mobile subscriptions now total to around six billion. The study mentions that the actual number of subscribers is about 4.1 billion, as many users have numerous subscriptions.

Sectoral Innovation Council of I&B recommends innovation in radio content

NEW DELHI: The Sectoral Innovation Council of the Information and Broadcasting ministry (I&B) has stated that content innovation is required in radio which is possible only if the Government comes up with a separate licensing model for niche channels. The Council has recommended that the ministry can come up with a formal arrangement by which Community Radio Stations (CRS) can provide community-based programme content to All India Radio, while AIR can provide capacity building and training to CRS workers in content creation, management and operation of stations.

Paul McCartney interrupts Olympics rehearsal to plead for temple elephant

MUMBAI: Today, after hearing from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India about the plight of a young elephant who has been beaten and is kept in chains, former Beatle Paul McCartney broke from rehearsals for his performance at the London Olympics to send an urgent letter to Maharashtra Forest Minister Dr Patangrao Shripatrao Kadam. The music legend, who first came to India in 1966, called on the minister to use his power immediately to rescue the little elephant, named Sunder, from Jyotiba Temple in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra and move him to a forested sanctuary.
