We are more than ska band: Ska Vengers

Indie music is exploring new sounds and styles beyond rock/pop, metal in its different avatars, classic/ retro and dance music. Delhi based band ‘Ska Vengers’ has been playing ska music- an infectiously cool blend of Afro-Jamaican pop music with off-beats, shuffles- since 2009. The band plays its own originals and covers of diverse artists- from Soul, Velvet Underground to The Clash and RD Burman. Dr Ilayaraja lands in Toronto for debut North American concert

MUMBAI: Indian music maestro Dr Ilayaraja is all set for his first North American tour starting from 16 February. The maestro arrived at the Toronto airport with his daughter Bhavatharini and the first batch of musicians on 12 February. More than 100 artistes will perform at the ‘Engeyum Eppothum Raja’ live concert at three different venues. The concert will feature performances by KS Chitra, SP Balasubrahmanyam, Hariharan, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthik Raja, Bhavatharini and  many other legendary singers and celebrities from India.

BIS Certification mandatory for all STBs

NEW DELHI: An order issued in October last year that all specified electronic goods including set top boxes have to conform to standards set by the Bureau of Indian Standards will come into effect from 3 April this year. The order of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology had said on 3 October 2012 that ‘all specified electronic goods including STBs imported or domestically manufactured must bear a self Declaration “Confirming to IS........ Registration Number”.

Global mobile phone sales fell by 1.7 per cent in 2012: report

MUMBAI: Inspite of a growth in the sector, the global mobile phone sales were hit by tough economic conditions and fell by 1.7 per cent in 2012, according to a report from research company Gartner. Owing largely to shifting consumer preferences and intense market competition, worldwide sales to end users totaled to around 1.75 billion units in 2012, a 1.7 per cent decline from sales in 2011.
