Jon Bon Jovi sued for $400 billion

MUMBAI: Jon Bon Jovi is being sued for $400 billion by a Boston musician, Samuel Bartley Steele.

Steele, who fronts the 'Chelsea City Council' band has accused Bon Jovi of stealing lyrics from his song '(Man I Really) Love This Team'. Samuel Bartley Steele, the front man for a band, believes Bon Jovi heard his song while campaigning in Boston for John Kerry in '04 then used the lyrics in his own song entitled, 'I Love This Town'

On his 'Chelsea City Council' Myspace page, Samuel Bartley Steele has written a note mentioning, "On several occasions, I let MLB (Major League Baseball) know that I was re-recording the playoff anthem with specific lyrics for each town and team. My song even matches the 2 minute, 38 second MLB promo ad pretty closely (camera pans on Yawkey Way sign the second I mention 'Yawkey Way'), and my song starts fade out at exactly 2:38!!! There are countless other things that just cannot be by chance."

Steele claims Bon Jovi ripped off the song "(Man I Really) Love This Team" he penned for his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox, and then tried to sell it to MLB for commercial use in 2004. Steele is going for a copyright violation and says that he is seeking the statutorily authorized amount of $100,000 per CD sold. So far, four million CDs have been sold to date so this totals almost $400 billion.

Futher, in his note on Myspace, Steele says, "I am not saying Bon Jovi stole my song. I am saying that I sent my song and marketing proposal to MLB affiliates 2004-2006. In 2007, TBS & MLB launched one of the largest ad campaigns in history, fronted by Bon Jovi. I believe that the video started from my song. I noticed musical and lyrical similaritites between the 2 songs, but what really struck me was how the video images matched my song's lyrics."

The note ends with, "Huge fan (of Bon Jovi) and seriously depressed musician, Bart Steele".
