AIR official faces harassment allegation

MUMBAI: All India Radio (AIR) Vijayawada comes under scrutiny for harassment as a casual news reader Rajni filed a case against Durga Rao, permanent news reader on 13 May.

Rajni confirmed to Radioandmusic.com that Rao has been harassing married women for a while now. Besides her, two more news readers have faced the same misbehavior but were reluctant to report. Out of the two, one of them had filed an FIR but due to Rao's torture she withdrew the compliant. Rajni also revealed that Rao is extremely abusive at the workplace.

Rajini said, "When there is power-cut in the office from 1.30 to 2.30 pm, Rao misbehaves with married women. There are few other ladies who are facing the problem but they don't wish to come in open and reveal their names."

She further added, "We have complained our editor Surekha about it and she has given him a verbal warning but this has not helped." Rajini started working as news reader from 2009 in AIR. She works for six hours daily for six days in AIR and apart from that this she is a practicing advocate herself.

Rao was transferred from Hyderabad to Vijayawada and had been working there for past two years.

When contacted Vijayawada AIR station director Krishna Kumari, she refrained herself from speaking about the allegation.
