MUMBAI: Last year this time the whole Nation was in a frenzy and wore a look of fear and sadness as India's financial capital, Mumbai was attacked by a ruthless group of terrorists. The incident that took place on 26th November 2008 was nothing short of a massacre. But the fighter that India is, within days, the criminals were found, caught and thrown out. However in this act of bravery many Mumbaikars lost their lives, some lost their relatives and friends and some were badly injured.

Radio Mirchi along with the team of �Kurbaan' held a special screening of the movie on Thursday, 19th November 2009, a day prior to the official release of the film in order to commemorate those who lost their lives last year and to salute the bravery of Mumbaikars who helped, specially the brave police force and firemen.

Listeners also nominated brave hearts who were their heroes in real life, common men and women who helped Mumbai during the terror attacks. They shared with other listeners, incidents from the unforgettable day when these men and women fought without caring about their own lives.

Uday Tatkare, Chief Fire Officer nominated his entire team of brave firemen from the Mumbai fire brigade who fought the terrorists with unmatched bravery They had AK 47's and hand grenades, this was a challenge for us, a first time experience, my boys did not even have self protection devices, this was definitely a first for us....

Asha Gaikwad who works in the Mantralaya, nominated her brother who is part of the police force and said My brother fought the terrorists with immense bravery and has now become the hero of our family....

Actress Kareena Kapoor, female lead of the film â€?Kurbaan' was also in the studio earlier this month on â€?Sunset samosa' to talk to the listeners about the initiative and thank the heroes on behalf of Radio Mirchi 

However Radio Mirchi's contribution was not restricted to the special screening alone.

The Times foundation founded by the Times group, of which Radio Mirchi is a part, also collected funds on the aegis of the 'Mumbai Cares' initiative. These funds are being given to the Bombay Community Public Trust (BCPT).

Times Foundation through BCPT has identified eight children who lost their parents on the fateful day and has decided to fund their education for five whole years, �Times-BCPT Education Sponsorship programme for the victims of Mumbai terror attacks'. The relief amount will be given to BCPT in the form of eight cheques of Rs. 15,000/- pa for a total period of five years.

The first cheque was handed over by Actor Saif Ali Khan and a representative of the Times foundation to the Trust, minutes before the screening of the movie.
