DJ Suketu revisits magical era of RD Burman with new album

MUMBAI: Have you ever wondered how the classic songs of “Pancham”, with their trade mark frantic pace, youthful exuberance and the upbeat rhythm sound like if the genius would have created music in today's time with modern sounds?? This was the thought which inspired DJ Suketu and his friends from the music industry to come together and recreate the phenomenon known as “RD Burman” in their latest album “DJ Suketu & Friends present RD Burman Reinvented”.

The album is a collection of 10 different melodies and moods from the huge bouquet of RD’s chef-d'oeuvre recreated in today's sound. Each track is remixed and reinvented in a unique style featuring trends from today’s popular Electronic Dance Music sounds, with vocals by a wide array of contemporary Indian singers.

RD Burman has been an inspiration to generation after generation of fans who have loved his music; he was way ahead of his time considering the modern sounds which he introduced into his melodies. Drawing inspiration from indigenous sources to create sounds like by “blowing in half filled beer bottles” or tinkling sounds from “cups and saucers” and using electro pop and synthesizers in his music. He was the epitome of experimentation with music.

“The inspiration for the album came from the thought of how RD would have created music in this age of modern sound, although it was a tough ask to decide upon 10 songs from the huge collection, but we wanted to touch all the different moods of RD Burman magic. This is our tribute to the man who changed the music scenario in India” says DJ Suketu.

DJ Suketu also adds, “This album will also expose the new generation to the music of RD Burman, as the songs have been recreated using modern technology like DubStep which makes them sound more contemporary.”
