Big FM Bhopal's 53 hour Radio marathon against 'female infanticide'

BIG 92.7 FM's Bhopal Station in a unique and first-of-its-kind initiative to promote the cause of the girl child and fight female infanticide hosted a 53 hour radio marathon promoting the cause. The non-stop marathon, hosted by breakfast jock RJ Mansi, touched upon points that brought to light the ill-practice against the girl child and promoted the benefits of the girl child

RJ Mansi hosts the BIG Chai between 7am to 1pm, weekdays, hosted the marathon for 53 hours which was record breaking and surpassed everyone's expectations. Beginning the marathon on March 6th at 7:00am, she kept it going till 2:00pm on March 8th. What kept her going was the support received from listeners and the people of the city across celebrities, government officials, NGO's, feminist parties, school and college students and tons of other listeners who swarmed the studio for a glimpse of the jock who has almost received celebrity status, given the excitement that the subject created.

An unusual marathon of this kind requires the jock to have immense passion and belief in the subject and is a true endurance test. RJ Mansi ensured she was well prepared and completely geared to take on the marathon with a zest! The preparations along with prayers, blessings and support from listeners and family are what ensured she came out triumphant. So strong was the impact, that it has gotten the entire city to sit up, notice and give this mal-practice a serious thought.

Commenting on this unique attempt, Mr. Alok Kataria – Cluster Head (Bhopal and rest of Maharashtra) - BIG 92.7 FM, Bhopal said, Through this initiative we have taken up and brought to light an extremely relevant issue that is still practiced in our country. It was our effort to bring to light this mal-practice and encourage people to come forward to fight it and stop it. The response received from listeners across age groups and sexes has been phenomenal and we are grateful for their support. We will continue in our endeavor to create awareness and put a stop to society evils of this kind through our radio station. Suno Sunao, Life Banao!...

Commenting on this unique attempt, RJ Mansi added, I feel very strongly for the issue. It's a pity that in today's day and age, the practice of female infanticide still exists… this when women across the world are reaching newer heights each day! I couldn't have done this without the support of listeners who were there to support and encourage me and my wonderful team of BIG 92.7 FM who motivated me to take up the issue. The city really came together and joined hands against this mal-practice and I am confident if we continue with our focused approach we can wipe this off from society....
