Audio-Technica to identify the UK's first crowd-sourced top 20 summer tracks using social media

MUMBAI: Audio-Technica, one of the world's finest manufacturers of audio equipment, has announced the final shortlist in its Sound of the Summer... campaign which set out to identify the nation's favourite summer tunes.

The competition, which was launched back in June through the company's social media channels, aimed to get people thinking about their ultimate summer anthems and explaining why they associated them with the sunny season. The nationwide competition captured the nation's imagination and received a huge amount of entries from a wide variety of musical genres.

The competition proved so popular, and difficult to decide, that a final shortlist of the top 20 tracks has now been announced online with Audio-Technica kindly asking the public to vote for their favourite song.

Harvey Roberts commented: We all love the summer and we were genuinely interested to find out which was the nation's favourite summer anthem. I particularly wanted to engage music fans in a fun competition where they could tell us what they liked and why, and some of the music suggestions have been truly brilliant and varied. If I am honest we never expected to receive so many diverse entries, we even received a few well humoured entries about the great British summer weather....

The final shortlisted entries can be viewed on Audio-Technica's YouTube channel and are as follows:

Barcelona – D Kay & Epilson

California Gurls - Katy Perry & Snoop Dogg

Get What You Give – New Radicals

Here Comes The Sun – Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel

Holiday – Madonna

I'm Yours – Jason Mraz

In The Summertime – Mungo Jerry

LDN – Lilly Allen

Loco in Acapulco - Four Tops

Loveshack – The B52's

Staying Out For The Summer – Dodgy

Steal My Sunshine – Len

Summer Breeze – Iseley Brothers

Summer In The City – The Lovin' Spoonful

Summertime - Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff

Sun Children – Nickodemus

Sunny Afternoon – The Kinks

The Boys Of Summer – Don Henley

Wipe Out – The Surfaris

World Hold On – Bob Sinclar

Mr Roberts continues: Despite knowing they couldn't win, even our team in the office wanted to get involved and they all shared their own favourite songs on our Facebook page. It was really difficult to choose the top 20 tracks from all of the entries and it certainly led to a lot of debate in our office! We are glad this competition has caught the public's imagination and it will be interesting to see which five tracks end up at the very top....

People can vote for their favourite track by visiting Audio-Technica's Facebook page and taking part in the online poll.

The top five tracks will be formally announced on Monday 25th July, on the company's Facebook and Twitter pages, with each of the lucky winners receiving a pair of FC700 headphones worth ?60 each.
