Nokia unveils N97 touch multimedia phone

BANGALORE: Nokia has unveiled the N97 converged touch device from its N-Series, in Bangalore. The  N97 is a S60 5th Edition mobile computer with a large 3,5, bright nHD (640 x 360 pixels and 16:9 aspect ratio) TFT colour display with resistive touch screen and tactile feedback.

The device provides user experience for internet and entertainment by combining a �qwerty' keyboard with touch UI and Home screen functionality. The N97 connects to mobile broadband using WLAN or HSDPA (3.5G).

Other features include direction and location finder with integrated A-GPS and included maps. Additional features include game titles with N-Gage, a 5 mega pixel camera with dual LED flash and automatic geotagging of images and videos, FM player transmitter, MP3 player, etc.

The Nokia N97 is the first device to ship with Ovi Store, a one-stop shop for a full catalog of applications, games, videos, podcasts, productivity tools, web and location-based services, etc. Ovi Store has paid and free content from a range of global and local content providers and developers, including Facebook, Paramount Pictures and Twitter applications.

In India, the Ovi Store on the N97 will offer a choice of 50 free to download items developed specifically for Indian consumers, by Indian developers under the aegis of Forum Nokia  In addition, users will also have access to global items, a mix of paid and free to download content. Nokia also plans to offer around 3.5 million song titles through its Nokia Music Store.

The phone is likely to hit the Indian market this month at an estimated price of Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 35,000/- according to sources at Nokia.

An online campaign backed by some print and television ads will commence soon informed Nokia sources. The company is targeting users of top and upper end mobiles as well as existing users of Nokia's N series mobiles.

Nokia Nseries also announced �Search for N', a national online hunt, for 10 people to discover and take an Nokia N97 device home before it hits the store shelves in India. �Search for N' will run for a period of five days from June 15-19, 2009.
