"Wait and watch", says Chaurasia

MUMBAI: If you remember the music of films like Silsila, Chandni, Lamhe, and Darr, you would most likely also recall the musicians who wove musical magic in those films. Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pt Shivkumar Sharma, who have been composing for films under the name ShivHari are teaming up to perform live together in Mumbai on 27 February, 2009 after a gap of two years.

On their reunion, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma says, We are very selective about coming together, we feel people should wait for such a concert, it should not be a common programme that happens every day.... The concert is going to be unique in many ways and the audience will also get a chance to interact with the musicians.

One would wonder what the two maestros' would be planning for this special concert Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma said, We ourselves don't know what we will be playing.... However, they do say that they will be accompanied by Pt. Vijay Ghate on Tabla for this rare Jugalbandi.

Pt. Hariprasad Charasia and Pt. Vijay Ghate have given many memorable concerts – the recent being the Idea Jalsa concert where Pt. Jasraj couldn't stop himself from coming on the stage and expressing his feelings after hearing them, I could see Bal Krishna dancing while you played,... he added, tum itna lad- dulaar karoge toh who toh naachega (You love him so much, why won't he dance).

The duo's last film as composers was Darr (1993). Why did the duo get into films when they were already very successful classical musicians. Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia says, That was to convince people that we love classical music but we equally love film music – classical music is our living, while film music is our hobby.... Panditji was also very optimistic when asked if they would be composing again, Yes, we'll do it again – we have not stopped,... he said, Just wait and watch....

SHIVHARI- Down Melody Lane will feature a rare Jugalbandi between Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pt Hari Prasad Chaurasia. The concert is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on 27th February at 7:30 pm at Shanmukhananda Auditorium.
