Times launches protest music album

MUMBAI:Times music has released an album "Vyom", touted as India`s answer to contemporary Protest Music.The album includes Kabir`s Dohas and Dushyant Kumar`s progressive poetry as well as folk songs of Rajasthani women, songs of the tribals of Narmada Valley and Punjabi satire on present day India. The album is believed to be a strong force towards the upliftment of the exploited. The launch event was graced by actor and activist Shabana Azmi, music director Bappi Lahiri, singers Shaan and Vitthal Umap, the mastermind behind this venture, journalist Yuvraj Mohite and Nandita Shah from Akshara, an organization that works for justice towards gender discrimination.

Though India has a tradition of Protest musicians,The form has not been able to become a part of the popular consciousness due to lack of attention from main stream media and apathy by popular musicians and singers claims the company.Vyom uses fusion music, a Soothing Synergy between a western instrument and Indian Folk. Guitarists Vinay and Vaibhav Jadhav give a new dimension to this form of fusion. Vyom is the brainchild of journalist Yuvraj Mohite and is produced by Mega Communications. The album is supported by Akshara, an organisation that works for justice towards gender discrimination. The rhythm arrangement is by Bhimrao Mohite and popular singer Shaan and Well known folk artiste shahir Vitthal Umap have lent their voices for the album.
