Taufiq Qureshi ready with 'The Art of Indian Fusion Drumming'

MUMBAI: Ultimate Guru Music, a Mumbai-based independent music label, announced that it has completed work on percussion maestro Taufiq Qureshi's upcoming release The Art of Indian Fusion Drumming.

It is a two-DVD set filmed and provides three-hour Hi Definition audio-visuals. Disc one features Taufiq and friends live studio performances, while Disc two features Taufiq's newly-developed language for playing traditional Indian Tabla beats on the Djembe, in the form of a four-part master class-tutorial for beginner, intermediate as well as advanced students of rhythm. Other features include an in-depth interview with the artiste about his musical influences and heritage. A trailer of this video production can be viewed at youtube. An Audio CD of the Disc One live performances by Taufiq and friends will also be available.

The liner notes also contains a foreword by Ustad Zakir Hussain, praising Taufiq's work on this project and says, I'm positive that this new DVD will help to educate and inspire a whole new breed of percussionists in India and in other parts of the world....

Hailing from the Punjabi Gharana of Hindustani Classical music, Taufiq's work has traversed across multiple musical genres. The project showcases the deep musical heritage of Taufiq Qureshi, son of the late Tabla legend Ustad Alla Rakha and brother of Ustad Zakir Hussain, the renowned Tabla and World Rhythm maestro
