Sony Music on acquisition spree, laps up five projects

MUMBAI: Sony Music has announced a mighty line-up of films for this season. The music label has a haul of Bollywood projects in its kitty including the Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Raajneeti', 'Aisha' starring Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor, Dharma Production's 'I Hate Luv Storys' with Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor in the lead role and 'Crook' from Vishesh Films. Recently, it also launched the music of Gurindar Chadha's 'It's A Wonderful Afterlife'.

The music label is strengthening its catalog in the regional market as well. It has acquired the music rights of the Tamil and Telugu version of Mani Ratnam's Raavan. The film is titled �Raavanan' in Tamil and �Villain' in Telegu and the music will release on 1st week of May. Music label T-series has grabbed the audio rights of the Hindi version of the film.

Talking about the marketing and promotion plan of the movie Sony Music marketing director Shanujeet Bhujabal said, "The music launch will be kicked off with a unique launch event where the cast and crew of Raavanan will be present. A R Rahman will be performing the songs from the movie. The marketing innovations will be carried out across all media – from in-store merchandising and display to unique mall/ground promotions to web innovations. We will be promoting this project heavily in US, Middle East, Malaysia and Singapore as well."

Apart from this the label has acquired several other projects in South. In Tamil, apart from 'Raavanan' it has acquired the music rights of 'Singum' starring Suriya, 'Aadukalam' starring Dhanush, 'Sindubad' starring Vikram and 'Kadhal 2 Kalyanam'. In Telegu, it has lapped up Rahman's 'Puli' starring Pawan Kalyan and 'Kaleja' starring Mahesh Babu apart from 'Villain'.
