Service providers, equipment makers converge at BES Expo

Mumbai: Over 350 reputed organisations, service providers and major broadcast equipment manufacturers from across the globe displayed their products and services at the recently concluded BES Expo 2008.

The 14th International Conference and Exhibition on Terrestrial and Satellite Broadcasting was held in New Delhi from 23 to 25 February at Pragati Maidan,New Delhi. The event, approved by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was supported by Prasar Bharati, The Society of Broadcast Engineers,USA, Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and endorsed by International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers.

On display were a whole range of products like amplifiers, antenna systems (Broadcast,FM &TV), inductors, antenna testers, audio measuring and test equipments, audio mixers, audio processors, automation systems and softwares, broadcast equipments and softwares, broadband access products, cables and accessories, channel automation systems, compact and digital disc production systems, DTH Systems, DAB Systems, Digital Audio and Video recording systems, Digital storage, archival and retrieval systems, DVB-T Transmitters, Earth stations/systems, Fibre optic solutions/services, Filters and splitters, Frequency monitoring systems, FM Exciters, HD Radio, HDTV, Headphones, Microphones, Mixers, Network management systems, Radio data systems, Radio automation softwares, Scheduling softwares, Satellite receivers, Switchers, Transmitters (AM,FM,TV), Test and Measuring equipments, Virtual Studio, VSAT systems, Wireless systems.

The BES Expo 2008 broadly focussed on DTH, DTT, DRM, DVM, FM, Cable, Video, Audio, Multimedia, Broadband, Networking, News Automation/Newsroom integration, Video Streaming, Satellite & Microwave, Graphics & Animation, Production/ Post Production equipments, Test & measuring equipments, MPEG2/MPEG4 Encoders, Portable recorders, Low cost radio broadcasting solutions, Radio studio design, archiving among other things.

A unique participant is this year's forum was Google, which participated in the expo for displaying its radio automation system.

Prasar Bharati also exhibited its latest technical innovations from All India Radio and Doordarshan. Among the systems displayed at the AIR stall were DRM, SMS Based Remote Monitoring System for Unmanned VLPTs, EWBS ?“ Emergency Warning Broadcast System, Remote Monitoring and Control System for FM Transmitters, AIR Virtual Studio. Responding to the queries were a team of engineers from Research Department of All India Radio alongwith R&D, All India Radio, director R K Garg.

The event was inaugrated by I and B minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi.

Among some of the prominent exhibitors were ABU (Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union), ADC Australia, Audemat Aztec France, BECIL(Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Ltd.), Broadcast & Cablesat, Broadcast Tecnologies,Digital Broadcast India Pvt Ltd., Falcon Tech, Harris Broadcast Comm., HCL, Jampro,USA, Network Electronics,Norway, Radio Duniya, National Association of Broadcasters USA, Nokia Singapore, Qualcomm India Pvt. Ltd., Radio Frequency System, Radio Systems Inc., Samsung, Sony, Rohde & Schwarz,Telerad, Tektronix,Teracom,Toshiba,Japan Wheatstone & Wide Orbit,USA. Google also participated in this years expo displaying its radio automation system.

Some of the prominent speakers were Panasonic Chief Engineer Hideki Ohtaka, Doordarshan chief engineer LV Sharma, Toshiba Senior Manager Aoki, Harmonics USA CEO Dick Hamann, TRAI New Delhis R N Choubey, Doordarshan, DG, LG Mandloi among others.
