RJs Jaggu and Tarana bid adieu to Radio One

MUMBAI: The curtain will fall on a long association when popular Radio One morning jocks Jaggu and Tarana quit the organisation by the end of this week.

The wellknown RJ jodi co-hosted the breakfast show, Good Morning Mumbai' from 7 am – 11 am for the past seven years. Radio One Ahmedabad based RJ Devaki would step in Jaggu-Tarana's shoes and take over as the morning breakfast show jock, say sources.

Confirms Jaggu aka Ashish Jagtiani, We have been doing radio for a long time now and would like to explore other media. Being associated with radio does not allow us to take up any other full day commitments....

Jaggu recently wrapped up an interview chat show on business channel, UTVi- Happy Hour' which he co hosted with Surbhi. Jaggu says, I would like to explore something beyond radio and may take up television or a travel show....

Echoes co host Tarana, Being associated with radio doesn't allow one to take up projects and I had to turn down some exciting offers as being a RJ demands one's presence in the city all the time. I have completed shooting for films like Karthik calling Karthik' and Tum milo toh sahi' and have a few lined up.... Tarana is also an accomplished TV actor and has acted in Hindi films like Yash Raj Films' Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Pyaar Ke Side Effects.

Tarana has been associated with Radio One for more than a decade. My association with radio started in 1997 with Radio Midday and I was present when the station underwent a transition into Go 92.5 FM in 2002 and later became 94.3 Radio One. I have been with radio for almost 12 years now and cannot bid goodbye to radio....

Tarana used to host a weekend show in the late 1990s, Radio Talkies, and moved on to become a morning jock in 2003 with co-host Anish Trivedi. In 2003, Jaggu joined hands and their on-air chemistry kept the listeners clued in for the past seven years.

The duo went off air in 2006 and made a comeback in November 2007. Tarana reminisces, It was when we went off air that we believed we had a listener base tuned into our show. But we would make a sneak exit from the show now without informing the listeners....

The duo will host their last show on 26 June and go off air without officially making an announcement to their listeners, say both the RJs.

Sources say, the station was not satisfied with the morning show's RAM ratings and the morning listenership has been dwindling from some months. In week 23, Radio one occupied the eighth position among other commercial FM stations in Mumbai.

Commenting on the RAM ratings, Tarana says, The ratings have been terrible for Radio one but I refuse to believe that because we have the phones ringing constantly on our show. The ratings for a station with such involved listeners can't be so low....

Radio One managing director Vineet Singh Hukmani was not available for comment.
