Music rains at Mood indigo 2012;Salim-Sulaiman to perform

MUMBAI: As Asia’s biggest college cultural fest gets underway fans of music are in for a heady treat. Mood Indigo annual cultural Festival of the Indian Institute of Technology- Bombay will be held from 20-23 December.

Maintaining its wholesome and eclectic taste for music, the fest will host a number of interesting artists and sounds apart from the biggest segment- the rock music competitions and performances.

The four-day fest promises performances by mandolin virtuoso Snehasish Mozumdar, Slovenian percussionist Dejan Stemberger, Spanish Raga Jazz quartet Triotonos and Art of Fusionby five musicians led by Rafael Sotomayor.

The popular competitions saw a total of 300 bands competing from all over the country across three main heads- ‘Mantra’ (for Hindi music), ‘Musgasm’ and the biggest show ‘Livewire competition' for a total prize worth Rs 5 lakhs in cash and in kind, organizers said.

The event will also see popular music directors Salim-Sulaiman flag off a sponsored music competition and also perform their repertoire of Bollywood hits at the festival. The duo will perform on 23 December.“We hope to get good talent at the competition though we don’t have an idea about what kind of artists to expect. But 'Mood-I' (Mood Indigo) is such a high quality fest that one can expect good talent,” Sulaiman Merchant told Radioandmusic.com.

The dynamic duo will appear with a fully-equipped orchestra and a choir along with their team.  Incentives for the finalists include an opportunity to visit the duo’s studio with the winner chance to record music for a feature film.

For their concert on the final day, Salim-Suliaman will perform a full-set of their Bollywood hits to satiate the crowd, Suliaman confirmed.

Thermal and A Quarter, a band from Bangalore and band  Simple Plan  will perform at Livewire Nite in OAT on  22 December.
