Mumbai Univ community FM radio to roll this week

MUMBAI: The community FM radio venture of Mumbai University will be inaugurated on 29 February by the president of India at the varsity's Fort campus.

The venture, christened MUST FM, will be transmitted from a frequency of 107.8 MHz from the studio set up put up at the university's Kalina campus. Initially, the radio will be run two hours in the morning between 7 and 9 pm, and in the evenings between 7 to 9 pm, but plans are on to start a 1 to 3 pm afternoon slot after a while. The content, put together by university students, will comprise informative as well as entertainment shows, including dial in shows, chat shows and discussions. It will encompass features, travelogues, career counseling, among other genres. Book reviews, poetry, folk art, medicine will also be touched upon.

English, Hindi and Marathi will be the languages of the venture, say those involved in the project. The venture aims to train varsity students in fields like editing, coordination, content creation and radio jockeying. Current as well as past students are being involved in the running of the venture, and the station is inviting creators of music to share content so that it can be aired on MUST radio.

While the radio station will be on air on the frequency 107.8 GHz, the stations range will be restricted to a radius of 3 km around the campus. But it will be accessible worldwide through the Internet.
