MUMBAI: Being touted as one of the best dancers, bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit will now showcase her dancing prowess as an item girl in upcoming film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

In her career spanning over decades, this will be the first time ever that Dixit will perform an item number in a film. As per reports, director Ayan Mukherjee approached Dixit for the song and she readily agreed.

The actress also recently launched her online dance academy with husband Dr Sriram Nene.

Following on the footsteps of other yesteryear actors, the diva is making her comeback in bollywood with the film Gulab Gang based on the real life story of Sampat Pal, who was last seen on the TV reality show Bigg Boss. Apart from that, she will also be seen in a pivotal role in her next film Dedh Ishqiya, which is a sequel to Vidya Balan starrer Ishqiya.

Post her marriage in 1999, the actress relocated to US. She made a comeback in 2007 with the movie Aaja Nachle. Though the movie did not fare well at the box office, Dixit's role was appreciated.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is a romance film directed by Mukerji under Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, who star in their second film together after their 2008 hit Bachna Ae Haseeno. Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin will play supporting roles. After initially being aimed for March 2013, the film will now be releasing on 31 May 2013.
