AXN to cook up new beat with 'The Kitchen Musical'

MUMBAI: The action oriented broadcaster, AXN, is set to serve up a television musical, The Kitchen Musical.

The Asian original production, conceptualised and currently in production by The Group Entertainment, is expected to premiere on AXN across Asia in October.

Featuring drama, music, dance and even culinary recipes, the tantalizing tale of The Kitchen Musical will be told through 13 one-hour episodes to be aired during primetime in some 22 Asian markets where AXN is available.

A multi-million dollar-franchise, The Kitchen Musical is set in the musical world of a famous restaurant. A rich, young girl, just out of culinary school Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, embarks on a journey of self-discovery when she starts working in the restaurant's kitchen among the masses.

The Kitchen Musical is the brainchild of CheeK, EVP and creative director of The Group Entertainment. On his production, CheeK commented, The idea of a musical television series that hones in on Asia's passion for food has never been done before. We wanted to create a fresh and original concept for the global audience and still well identifiable within the region....

Each instalment of the series will showcase re-arranged and re-recorded popular hit songs brought to life by specially choreographed dance sequences. Viewers can also look forward to new dishes and desserts spotlighted in every episode.

This TV musical extravaganza will feature a team of talents from the region in front of and behind the cameras. Viewers will recognise veterans and up-and-coming faces including Stephen Rahman Hughes, previously seen in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Bombay Dreams, Filipino singer-songwriter and actress Karylle Tatlonghari, as well as singing sensation Christian Bautista.

Crew members and behind the scenes staff will work with Austalia's top choreographer, Jason Coleman, current judge of Australia's So You Think You Can Dance and the man who orchestrated the performance at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Other notable crew members include Philippine's well-known music director, Gerard Salonga, as well as Massimiliano Della Maggesa, international make-up artist who has worked with Alexandra McQueen, Donna Karen and Chlo?©.

Sony Pictures Television senior VP, GM, Networks, Asia Ricky Ow said, AXN is delighted to be the regional broadcaster for The Kitchen Musical and are excited with the fresh and original concept of the show. Featuring some very talented Asians, the show will tap into Asian viewers' passion for drama, music, dance, and food. AXN always endeavours to bring viewers new and innovative Asian original productions and we are confident the high production quality and high energy of The Kitchen Musical will have a broad appeal amongst our viewers....
