Anu Malik returns to Bollywood music front with big projects

MUMBAI: After being out of bollywood music scene for a while, renowned music composer Anu Malik is back again with some big banner projects

Malik has recently composed for the film ‘Ye Jo Mohabbat Hai’ produced by Ashim Samanta. The film’s music album comprises of tracks of various styles including romantic ballads, peppy numbers and poetries by Anand Bakshi. Apart from vocals by Shaan, Mohit Chauhan and Neeraj Shridhar, the film also has a peppy number ‘Big Fat Indian Wedding’ rendered by Malik’s daughter Anmol.

Sharing his experience on working with his daughter with Radioandmusic.com, Anu Malik says, “Working with Anmol was very nice, creatively she brings a lot to the table. She loves music and it is great to see her contributing to the song at such a big level. I am a hard task master but it was at Neeraj Sridhar’s insistence that I allowed her to render a track in the film. The album also features other talented singers who have rendered some fabulous songs.”

Earlier, Anmol had rendered the track ‘Talli’ from the film ‘Ugly aur Pagli’ which earned her rave reviews and accolades. With another track to her credit, Anmol is now looking at creating a career as a bollywood playback singer. However, Anu Malik has made sure that his daughter gets the due credit for her work and does not get recognition because of him.

He states, “I do not want Anmol to get famous because of me and my name. She is a hard working girl and is a great learner. Many singers who have heard her have liked her voice and I am sure she will go a long way ahead in bollywood.”

‘Ye Jo Mohabbat Hai’ comes from the house of the legendary Shakti Samanta, who has given musical hits like Aradhana, Kati Patang and ‘Kashmir ki Kali’, and thus rides high on expectation of giving good music. Malik says, “There was immense pressure as all these films comprised of classic numbers which are remembered even today. I wanted to give melodies where people would remember my music for a long time and I am glad to see that the songs are doing well.”

Publicity and promotions hold a major part in the success of films and its music today. Big banners and starcast are other such factors that draw the audience’s attention towards a film. Recently films like ‘Jism 2’, ‘Kya Superkool hai Hum’ and more have garnered a lot of eyeballs for various factors like content, cast and music.

Commenting on the same Malik claims, “These days’ people talk about other films a lot because of different reasons. If you see, Jism 2 is being spoken about a lot because of Sunny Leone. Also a new trend has taken over bollywood where many composers work on one project. I feel this should not be encouraged as it dilutes the contribution of the composer. All these factors have diverted people from listening to the music that I have created in recent times. But there are also those who have heard my music and appreciated it and I am truly humbled because of that.”

Apart from the film, which is scheduled to release tomorrow, Malik also has other projects slated to release soon. He has recently scored a track for Anil Sharma’s upcoming film ‘Singh Sahab - The Great’. He also has Sanjay Gupta’s much-awaited film ‘Shootout at Wadala’ in his kitty. The film will witness Malik and Gupta teaming up after a long hiatus. Malik has roped in Neelesh Mishra to pen the tracks for this gangster film, while singers like Mika and Strings will render the numbers.

“Sanjay Gupta called me and made me hear the brief which was very amazing. I was pretty excited to start working on this film. Gupta also told me that this film will bring me out of my hibernation and I have already started working on the first track of the movie. Considering that it is a gangster film, the score will require a lot of my attention and thus I have got some good singers to render the tracks. We are working on it and it will be an exciting journey. All I can say is that this film will surely make people sit up and take notice of me once again,” he avers.
