Karnatriix's Namaste tops Planet M charts

MUMBAI: Led by guitarist John ("Johny") Anthony, band Karnatriix's album "Namaste" has held the number one position on the Planet M charts for two weeks in a row in the New Age/World Music category.

The two week period includes the period between 5 and 18 January 2009. Released by music label IndiaBeat, "Namaste" is exclusively distributed by EMI India  Namaste has also been a featured album on the MySpace homepage for the past few weeks as well.

Karnatriix's music has elements of jazz, blues, rock, trance, funk, and classical sounds in perfect harmony with the Carnatic kritis of Saint Thyagaraja  Johny considers musicians such as John McLaughlin, Miles Davis, Johann Sebastian Bach and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as his inspiration.

The album features Johny's tightly controlled guitar along with Faiyaz Ahmed Khan's soulful sarangi, and percussions by Darbuka Siva.

IndiaBeat (www.indiabeat.in), which has had a popular presence on the Internet as an online radio station and MySpace since 2006, covers the genres of Indian classical, jazz, progressive rock and fusion music. The
music label was launched in June 2008. "Namaste" is their third release.

Karnatriix fans in Chennai can look forward to Karnatriix playing live at the "Justice Rocks" festival on 7 and 8 February 2009.
