Sony Ericsson extends Xperia series with Ray, Active

MUMBAI: Sony Ericsson has broadened its Xperia series with the launch of two smartphones Xperia Ray and Xperia Active. The two Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphones were introduced in CommunicAsia 2011 conference in Singapore.

Xperia Ray features 3.3 screen with 9.4mm aluminum chassis and comes in four colors: black, gold, white, and pink. The handset is embedded with powerful 1 GHz processor, 854x480-pixel display with the mobile bravia engine.

The device consist of 8.1-megapixel camera with a Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor and advanced options like 16x digital zoom, aperture f/2.4, face detection/recognition, smile detection, and can capture 720p HD video. Xperia Ray is also equipped with bluetooth, Wi-Fi, aGPS and supports the North American 3G bands.

Xperia Active features 3-inch screen, 320x480-pixel display with 1 Ghz processor, 5mp camera, built-in GPS, barometer, compass and the on-screen heart rate and pulse monitor enables by ANT+ wireless networking technology. The device boasts of dustproof and waterproof features.

Both the handsets will be available globally from Q3, 2011.
