Jazz legend Dave Brubeck passes away

MUMBAI: Pianist and composer Dave Brubeck has gone silent, leaving behind exotic music for his aficionados. Popular jazz musician of the 1950s and ‘60s, Brubeck died at the age of 91. Brubeck died on Wednesday morning  of heart failure after being stricken while on his way to a cardiology appointment with his son Darius, said his manager Russell Gloyd. He would have turned 92 on 7 December.

Matru Ki Bijlee ka Mandola music released

MUMBAI: Director Vishal Bhardwaj with actors Anushka Sharma and Imran Khan launched the music of his upcoming film ‘Matru Ki Bijlee ka Mandola’ on 4 December. “The film is set in Haryana and the music is a blend of Haryanvi folk and African music,” said Bhardwaj who is also the music director of the film. Renowned writer Gulzar has penned the lyrics and the album is on Sony Music. The title song is by Sukhwinder Singh and Ranjit.

Saavn to launch paid subscription model in 2013

MUMBAI: US based digital music distributor Saavn (South Asian Audio Visual Network) is set to launch a paid subscription model for its streamed music service for the Indian market in first quarter of 2013. The company which started as BODVOD in 2006, currently provides free music streaming service on the web, iOS and Android platforms. It currently has over 1.3 million users across 219 countries including India, Indonesia, Philippines, Turkey and even the US. It has over 2 million tracks in 77 languages and has more than 800 labels as partners.

Niloufer Dundh quits Hungama Digital

MUMBAI: After a stint of over three years, Hungama Digital Media Entertainment head - integrated media Niloufer Dundh has put in her papers and is currently serving her notice period till 16 December. Hungama Digital has not yet announced a replacement. Confirming the news with Radioandmusic.com, Dundh said, “ I am quitting Hungama as I would like to take entrepreneurial route in marketing. Before that I would go on a break till mid or end of January.”

Creative agencies battle out at Radio One Karaoke Championship

MUMBAI: Bringing the advertising industry together, Radio One commenced its karaoke championship with eight teams battling out for the crown. Out of the eight teams registered for the first round of the three round battle, two winners and runner ups each have qualified for the final round to he held on 20 December. Kavita Seth to pay tribute to late husband

MUMBAI: Playback singer Kavita Seth will give a musical performance to mark the first death anniversary of her husband KK Seth (he died of pancreatitis on 15 December 2011).  The ‘Nirvana’ tribute concert will take place at the Pranganga Amphitheatre Bhavans Campus, Andheri (West) on 15 December.
