Pepsi MTV Indies will increase the pressure of good quality music

Rohit Pereira aka P-Man recently performed with his band ViceVersa for a mash-up during the Pepsi MTV Indies launch party and also collaborated with Mumbai hardcore band Scribe for a MTV show.

But amidst all the activity to make the channel the best, P-Man has some expectations and says something really very important in a no-frills way. "My expectation when I switch on the channel is to have Indie music and there should not be any Bhangra or pop. It should be nice quality Indie music, shows and Indie bands. I am really expecting lot from the channel."

He further stressed, "They should keep on promoting Indie music and in that journey they become a huge entity like most channels in the west. I hope it remains a non-Bollywood channel that will encourage more channels and artistes which would help in becoming a full flooded industry like the West." The 24 hour channel will go live by the end of February 2014 and will be a paid channel.

The timing of the channel according to him perfectly blends with the blooming Indie space. There are so many music festivals and platforms for music. "I hope that in a couple of years, musicians will be able to make their living through their music and not have to depend on their day job. When I started things were very different and I am jealous of the kids now, because of everything that is available for them," Pereira joyfully stated.

He believes that the idea of having good quality music videos will become very important due to the channel. "The pressure of good quality will increase. Artistes will not be able to shoot stuff on handycams and phone cameras. It will work for Youtube, but not for videos being aired on television." He added, "It will help us build a good eco-system."

Pereira is not only associated with ViceVersa; but also jams with Shaair + Func and has a day job. "I have mastered the art of time management which helps me shuffle between roles." Currently, ViceVersa is working on a bunch of singles and their latest single was 'Habibi'. "We are planning on having one more single and a video. We are looking at collaborating for our single. We will keep digging and decide if it will be a single or EP," he affirmed.

He has a simplified plan for coming few years where he will be playing more music and if possible play music abroad.
