Spotify plans free mobile version

MUMBAI: Music streaming service Spotify plans to offer an advertisement free-support version for mobile devices in the U.S. and other countries. As per reports this was made known by sources that insisted on remaining anonymous.

Sweden-based Spotify currently offers an ad free-supported service on computers and a $9.99 monthly ad-free plan on mobile and other devices.

This will allow Spotify to attract more users in coming years which can be converted into paid subscribers in future.

Spotify currently competes with Pandora and Apple's iTunes Radio and will also face some competition with new entries.

According to reports, the new free mobile service requires a constant internet connection. However, paid subscribers of Spotify can store songs on devices for offline listening without being interrupted by ads. The record companies have permitted Spotify to expand the free mobile service into new territories, including developing countries, the reports said.
