US Digital Music Sales to overtake CDs in 2012: Report

MUMBAI: US consumers will spend more on online music than CDs for the first time in 2012, according to the latest study from Strategy Analytics' Digital Media Strategies service. The report, Global Recorded Music Market Forecast..., issued in Boston on Tuesday, found that total recorded music sales in the US declined by 7% to $6.2bn in 2010, driven largely by a 16% plunge in CD revenues, to $3.8bn. In 2012 consumer spending on CDs will fall further to $2.7bn, more than $1bn lower than the 2010 level.

Disney Channel's Ishaan series launches IshaanûSapno Ko Awaz De album

Mumbai: Disney Channel's original television series, Ishaan, launched its new music album, Ishaan – Sapno Ko Awaz De, on Tuesday, 29th March 2011. The album consists of nine tracks featured on Ishaan – Sapno Ko Awaz De, and a bonus track from the king of Disco, Bappi Lahiri. Ishaan is the first locally produced musical for tweens on Indian television and it's for the first time in India that a television show's music album featuring original tracks is launched.

News Corp may sell Myspace to Vevo.com

MUMBAI: News Corp is in talks with Vevo.com and may give control of Myspace to the music label-owned video site. News Corp in February had announced that it is exploring the option of a possible sale or spin-off of its distressed social entertainment site.   The media conglomerate has roped in boutique investment bank Allen & Co to aid the process. According to some reports, as of February it had already received early interest from nearly 20 parties.

Supreme Court adjourns music royalty case, stay to continue

NEW DELHI: Even as the Supreme Court postponed the hearing of the matter to 5 April, its stay on the order of the Copyright Board concerning royalties to be paid to artistes for broadcasting music by radio operators will continue. The division bench of the Court comprising Justice Altamas Kabir and Justice Cyriac Joseph had stayed the order on 18 March and listed the matter for today.
