'Bar Talk' is about how people tend to be self-absorbed and forget about things that matter: Raghav Meattle

MUMBAI: Mumbai based singer and songwriter Raghav Meattle who was the semi-finalist of the second edition of India’s first English music show- The Stage released his latest song Bar Talk with Neelie Chikhlikhar. The video is directed by Jaskunwar Kohli.

Bar Talk is a social commentary about the uncomfortable things people talk about while living their comfortable lives. One rarely does anything about it. The song talks about how people tend to be self-absorbed and forget about things that matter,” said Raghav.

He further added, “We live a life of convenience and it becomes hard to talk about what's really on our minds because it sends us out of our comfort zone. To avoid this momentary pain we tend to avoid and end up creating bigger issues. Neelie had a bunch of lyrics that she'd sent me and we worked over the song on WhatsApp since we live in different cities. I recorded the song in my bedroom, sent it across to Zain, who's a friend of mine and he added the other elements to the song. The whole thing took about two months.”

The entire video was shot in a day at different locations around the city. The idea was to see the response of people when someone busks right in front of them. “We shot all across Mumbai, mainly South Bombay - Dhobi Ghat, Marine Drive, Local Trains and Pheonix Mall, added the versatile voice of The Story Of My Life from The Stage,” said Raghav.

The singer-songwriter has constantly been making music with a cause and reaching to people. He said, “I just write about these personal things that matter the most to me and it's great that people identify themselves with the music and songwriting. Writing new songs is the hardest part about being a musician but that's what I love doing the most.”

The duo Raghav and Neelie decided to go with Bar Talk because it's a place where we lower inhibitions and talk and talk about the world and its problems. But at the end of the night, we end up talking about issues that matter to us like drunk dialing an ex.

The singer is also currently writing new material that he is going to try and put out every month with Jaskunwar's help. He will also be playing a lot of gigs including one in Goa (Watson's, Panjim) next month. “Nikhil Malik, (From Meattle and Malik) is moving to Mumbai in October, so we'll be gigging with an electronic live act too with that,” added the singer.
