MUMBAI: Film director Vikram Bhatt is foraying into the music business scene and is planning to launch a music label, ASA Music. This sister concern of Bhatt's ASA Productions will be open to market music produced by other production houses as well.
Confirms Vikram Bhatt, "We would be marketing and distributing film as well as non-film music and are also ready to market films outside ASA Productions."
ASA Music will be headed by Crescendo managing director Suresh Thomas. Says Thomas, “Vikram just wanted an inhouse label to promote his ASA productions but soon we thought of launching a full-fledged label. The label will be open to promote productions by other producers as well.”...

MUMBAI: Polish band Zakopower will perform live in Mumbai for the first time on 24 November at the NCPA.
Zakopower, that was nominated for the 'Best Polish Act' at the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards, is part of the cultural line up which the Consulate General of Poland has drawn up celebrations to mark its 75th year in Mumbai and the 90th year of Poland's independence.

MUMBAI: Five of the most luminous names in music - conductor Zubin Mehta, tenor Placido Domingo, conductor-pianist Daniel Barenboim, violinist Pinchas Zukerman and soprano Barbara Frittoli will perform in Mumbai in a special series to mark the centenary of Zubin's father, Mehli Mehta, in October this year.
Four concerts will be held at the Jamshed Bhabha Opera House, the Domingo-Frittoli show will be at the Brabourne Stadium, offering some of the most well-loved arias and duets. The series of concerts will begin on 7 October with Barenboim and be followed by two Zukerman nights. MUMBAI: The Rock phenomenon which kicked off in Kolkata on 31 July 2008 concluded on Saturday with Pune’s Silver declared as the undisputed winners. The multi-city festival was in full action at the Chitrakoot grounds in Andheri in suburban Mumbai.
The five bands which slugged it out for the coveted I-Rock title were The scavenger project from Kolkata, Another Vertigo Rush (AVR) from Delhi, Silver from Pune, Rainbow Bridge from Bangalore and Black from Mumbai. The I-Rock finals were judged by Assistant Editor, The Rolling Stones (India) Bobin James, Bobby Talwar, Bassist of Zero and the common judge, E-18 CEO Farhad Wadia. MUMBAI: Known to be Subhash Ghai's most ambitious project till date, multistarrer Yuvvraaj's music was launched under the T-Series label at a suburban hotel in Mumbai on Thursday.
Though the multi-star cast of the film was not in attendance, the man behind the much anticipated film's music A R Rahman was present with his mother Karima Begum, who officially launched the music of the film along with lyricist Gulzar and director Subhash Ghai.
A R Rahman, who has previously worked with Ghai on the 1999 musical hit 'Taal', said, "Well, comparisons are bound to happen between Taal and Yuvvraaj's music. The music for ‘Khwaab’ has been composed on an assortment basis by Gaurav Dayal of (Dil le gayi kudi Gujarat ki fame) and Saibal Basu, who had earlier composed for the 2003 film Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II.
Says Sharma, “Khwaab has eight tracks, five composed by Gaurav and three by Saibal. The album is a mixed bag of all genres, rock, hip hop, which appeal to youngsters today.”...
