NEW DELHI: With the grant of permission to the National Institute for Visually Handicapped in Dehradun to start its own radio station, the number of Community Radio Stations has gone up to 66 in the country.

The first CRS being set up specifically for the visually handicapped, the station is expected to be operational within three months. The Letter of Intent by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had been issued to the Institute after recommendations of the Inter Ministerial Committee and seeking requisite clearances from various Ministries....

MUMBAI: Music label T-Series has announced an impressive line-up of six films for the month. The music giant will release the audio of some small budget films as well as some biggies in March.

MUMBAI: Sun TV Network has announced the launch of its FM radio station in Gangtok (Sikkim) under the Red FM brand through its subsidiary, South Asia FM.

MUMBAI: Amid the copyright furore between the film producers and music directors over the proposed amendments to the Copyright Act, music composer Pritam is entering into a co-ownership deal for his music compositions in 2010.

Pritam confirms, “I am composing for Yashraj Films' Badmash Company, Vipul Shah’s Action Replay, Rohan Sippy’s Dam Maro Dam, Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 3, Thank You and a few more. I would be signing deals to co-own my compositions with producers for some of the movies. I cannot mention the names at the moment as the deal is still in process.” ...

MUMBAI: On December 31, 2009, the WorldSpace satellite radio broadcast service will be terminated for all customers serviced from India, according to an announcement posted on the company website.

This action is an outgrowth of the financial difficulties facing WorldSpace India’s parent company, WorldSpace, Inc., which has been under bankruptcy protection since October 2008, the announcement says.

WorldSpace is present in over 130 countries globally, and has already been in the process of closing down its operations in most other countries....

MUMBAI: Anuj Sharma, the forgotten third finalist of Indian Idol's second season is ready to cut his debut solo Hindi album.

Says the singer, “Universal Music is launching my solo Hindi debut album, ‘Khwaab’ in December and I would be making my comeback in the Hindi music scene.”

The music for ‘Khwaab’ has been composed on an assortment basis by Gaurav Dayal of (Dil le gayi kudi Gujarat ki fame) and Saibal Basu, who had earlier composed for the 2003 film Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II....

MUMBAI: After years of churning out popular VJs on television, MTV is back with its VJ hunt contest.

Calling everyone who is above 18 years of age, Idea MTV VJ Hunt is set to kickstart in Mumbai from 5 December and will round up the contenders from Chandigarh, Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata and Bangalore on 8, 11, 14, 18, and 21 December respectively.

MUMBAI: The Haflong station of All India Radio took a major leap on 1 February 2010 with its first ever live outdoor broadcast - a running commentary of the Busu Dima fest, the biggest local festival of the region.
