Concert For Tranquility by Kishori Amonkar - Hindustani Vocal Recital

Body:

Supported by Khanna Family in memory of Kiran Khanna.

On February 4, 2008 Kiran Khanna tragically died in a violent robbery attack. Amidst that trauma, she died with the name of god on her lips. She lived with this divinity throughout her life. The Khanna family responds by commissioning one concert per year. Each concert will feature the world's greatest musicians, selected singularly for their noble ability to replace violence in the world with their tranquility. This is a fitting tribute to the enduring spirit of Kiran Khanna.

Groomed by her mother and doyenne of Jaipur-Atrauli gayaki, late Mogubai Kurdikar, Kishori Amonkar is a rare musician whose quest represents a relentless search for new directions in classical expression. She has equal command over the semi-classical repertoire like thumri, folk music, devotional music and even ghazals. She has emerged as a role model for a large number of singers of the younger generation.

She has been honoured with several awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan Award and Padma Vibhushan.
