Archana's Diary: Sunidhi Chauhan - Singing, dancing dervish!

Sunidhi has been an RJ on Musical-E-Azam! Season 2 had her in the RJ seat and she invited her favourite singing stars, so she was not just prepared for the journey but could host it herself too!

When she came into the studio for M-e-A today, Sunidhi had slept for only an hour the previous night as she was having a fun time with  friends at night! And that's when it hits you that this girl, who started working at age 11, doing shows with Amitabh Bachchan (in which Farha Khan was choreographing and even dancing)  and left her studies after the 10th standard, is like a teen still bonding with friends and does not even have an ounce of the starry airs one would expect to go with someone who became a super star at such a young age!

Her love for Michael Jackson is just crazy! She is learning to play the guitar and she played us Childhood' – so that's how much she loves Michael. Eternally!... as she puts it.

This was by far the most impressive MeA with Sunidhi, purely because she sang like a dream. From Beyonce's Halo' to Sheila ki Jawani, she was simply on fire and totally kicked about everything happening around!

She spoke about her experience in Guwahati where she was performing recently and how 15,000 of the audience members attacked the backstage area just to get a glimpse of Sunidhi up and close. One crazed fan whom Sunidhi euphemistically referred to as a gentleman... kept throwing his hands in and saying Haath pe kor lo... and she was, like, Kya karoon?'

What you love about Sunidhi is her interest level in food, her exercise fitness regime, her love for cars, her extreme passion about dancing and, of course, singing. In fact, she's danced non-stop for five hours at a disc!

On the personal front, Sunidhi says she's finally ready to move on emotionally in life. The old scars have finally healed and she is open to a relationship and marriage. Touch wood for that!

For the Marathi listeners, Sunidhi sang Kaande-Pohe' from Sanai Chaughade, and it sounded fantastic. Also, Farah Khan couldn't stop singing her praise – she said, Sunidhi is the new-age Asha Bhonsle!... And: If it weren't for Sunidhi, Sheila ki Jawani wouldn't be such a cult hit....

Vishal Dadlani, who has worked extensively with Sunidhi and given her some of her finest hits, recalled that once, after having been in a car crash, Sunidhi  insisted on recording in spite of a cruel pain in her ribs. He told us she'd said that she just had to sing, because if she didn't sing her pain would increase! That's when I knew that this was a legend in the making,... Vishal told us.

A legend who, despite her good looks, can't get enough of music but has no plans for films despite getting innumerable offers. She is a fantastic mimic and hates doing it in public forums now,  because some artists can't handle imitation with a healthy spirit!

There can be no one like Sunidhi! What's-her-name What's-her-name, What's-her-name. . . . Sunidhi, Sunidhi ki Jawaani, Rawaani. . . . . . . . God bless the child prodigy and may she reach greater heights. I'm only too glad that she has a very special place for Radio as a medium, and my very own Radio City as a station.
