Sony Music acquires Sun Pictures' Singam

MUMBAI: After acquiring chartbusters in Kollywood like Dhasavathaaram, Vaaranam Aayiram, Aayirathil Oruvan, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa and Sakkarakatti, Sony Music has acquired Sun Pictures â€?Singam'

The music label joined hands with Sun Pictures, the film division of Sun Network to acquire and promote the music of â€?Singam' - their forthcoming blockbuster starring superstar Suriya

Commenting on the acquisition Sony Music India MD Shridhar Subramaniam says, We have believed in the global appeal and potential of Tamil cinema and music. Over the last two years, Sony Music has been making substantial investments in this interesting genre. Sony Music seeks to work with select prestigious and   talented partners on a long term basis. Our partners value our business acumen and marketing expertise coupled with our transparency. With â€?Singam', we have begun our association with one of the most respected and ambitious production house – Sun Pictures. Together we will create many milestones in the years ahead....

Agrees Sun Pictures COO Hansraj Saxena, Singam is one of the best pictures with superb music being produced by Sun Pictures. We needed a partner who shared our belief and vision and we have got that with Sony Music. Singam' is just the beginning of what I see as an industry re-defining association. We look forward to rock with many blockbusters....

â€?Singam' is a landmark film for many reasons. This is Suriya's 25th film, and he also returns with long-time associate, director Hari. Hari had earlier directed Suriya in Aaru in 2005 and Vel in 2007. Hari's filmography includes blockbuster â€?Saamy' with Vikram. â€?Singam' also stars heart-throb Anushka Shetty, Prakash Raj and Vivek, and has music by the whiz-kid Devi Sri Prasad – who has earlier delivered Telegu chartbusters like Arya 2, Varsham and Jalsa and Tamil chartbuster Kanthswamy

Story of Singam revolves around smuggling activities taking place in Rameshwaram. Suriya plays a cop, the film is expected to have the right mix of sentiments and comedy like all Hari films.

Singam' is produced by Gnanavel Raja under the banner Studio Green and Big Pictures, and has been acquired by Sun Pictures. Studio Green has earlier made Sillunnu Oru Kaadhal' and Paruthiveeran'.
