Shantanu Moitra, Swanand Kirkire debut in Bengali cinema

MUMBAI: Known for creating unforgettable soundtracks for movies like Parineeta, Lage Raho Munnabhai and 3 Idiots, renowned musical duo composer Shantanu Moitra and lyricist Swanand Kirkire is all set to debut in the Bengali music industry with the film Paanch Adhyay.

Composed by Moitra, the film’s album mainly enlists Hindi tracks including two Bengali songs. The Bengali track ‘Rahoon tere peechhe’ has been penned by Kirkire and rendered by MTV Coke Studio famed Kaushiki Chakrabarty, whereas, the second melody ‘Uda jaaye’ has been penned and rendered by Kirkire himself.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Kirkire said, "I have always adored Bengali culture as it interests me. I also always wanted to be a part of this culture as it hails great musical patronage with poets and artistes like Rabindranath Tagore and to be a part of this culture was an honour. I and Shantanu have worked together in many films and more than colleagues we are friends and we understand each other work. So when he came to me with this project I knew there should be something special about it. I absolutely loved working for the film."

The film also features several renowned bollywood singers like Shubha Mudgal, Usha Uthup (English track), Shaan and Shreya Ghoshal. The album also features lyricists like National Award-winning lyricist duo Anindya Chatterjee and Chandril Bhattacharya, and the English track has been noted by the film’s writer-director Pratim D Gupta.

Directed by Gupta, the romantic drama Paanch Adhyay is also Bengali debut film of bollywood actor  Dia Mirza who will star opposite Priyanshu Chatterjee.
