Salim-Sulaiman re-create a youthful avatar of 'Jana Gana Mana'

MUMBAI: Various artistes have brought in diverse adaptations of the Indian National Anthem- Jana Gana Mana…. composed originally in Bengali by Rabindranath Tagore.

This Independence Day, the Ismaili music composer Sulaiman, along with his brother Salim has recorded a novel version of the Indian anthem.

The peppy version is sung by the young and talented bunch of Bollywood which includes Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Niigaam, Kailash Kher, Shreya Ghoshal and Salim Merchant

Talking to Radioandmusic.com, Gen-Y composer Sulaiman said, MTV approached us with this idea as they felt that we are the new generation composers and capable of bringing about a change in music trends. We have got sensibilities required to compose an apt version of our national anthem and retaining its purity at the same time. MTV chose us to represent young India, its target audience and we were quite kicked with the plan...

Talking about the music and the modern feel of youthful version, Sulaiman added, You do not have many liberties while working on it and you cannot change the anthem beyond a limit. Also you have a fixed time format and lyrics as stated by the constitution which you cannot afford to play with. Hence we have given it a contemporary form only. We have used musical instruments like guitar and piano to give the track a new flavour....

A video for this track is also conceptualized and created by MTV. The video will be a compilation of clips uploaded on the MTV website by about 890 participants. The video takes a new approach to freedom and features shopping malls, call centers, eateries and such other joints. It showcases young India and the nation's positive spirit.

Talking about the promotional plans of the anthem Sulaiman revealed, As of now the track will be released only on MTV. It might later on go to Hungama or some other digital platform,...

Apart from the usual promotional techniques, MTV might also make use of ring tones, viral campaigns and slogan T-shirts to popularize the song and create mass appeal.

The younger version of the anthem will be released on 15 August on MTV
