Salim-Sulaiman nominated for Emmy Awards

MUMBAI: Music composer siblings Salim-Sulaiman Merchant are set to add glory to the Indian music industry. The duo has secured an Emmy Awards nomination under the 'Outstanding Original Song- Children's and Animation' category for the track We Like Being Small' they scored for a Nick TV show The Wonder Pets.

Sulaiman Merchant, who says he is still trying to digest the news of the nomination, says It's for the first time that an Indian has been nominated within the music category for the Emmies and we are vey excited about it. The nomination makes us really feel proud as it gives us international recognition. It really means a lot to us....

Sulaiman says that he, like any other kid, has grown up by watching these animated shows. The fact that they got an opportunity to compose for a special episode Save the Bengal Tiger' for Nickelodeon show The Wonder Pets' which had an Indian theme, motivated them.

Salim-Sulaiman have also composed music for 2008's animated Hindi film Roadside Romeo' directed by Jugal Hansraj, and Karan Johar's forthcoming Kuchi Kuchi Hota Hai'. Composing music for an animated series needs imagination as no visual aid is available. The visuals are decided only after the music is composed. So it is necessary to first gain some knowledge and expertise about it and also maintain the track kid friendly,... says Sulaiman.

The other nominations that would be competing with Salim-Sulaiman in the grand ceremony scheduled for 30 August are: Rich Collins,Scott Durbin,Dave Poche and Scott Smith  for "Boing, Cluck Cluck" from Imagination Movers – Disney Channel ; Mark Radice and Luis Santeiro for "Elmo's Ducks" from Sesame Street – PBS ; Tony Geiss for "I Don't Wanna Be A Prince" from Sesame Street – PBS ;  Annie Evans, Russell Velazquez and Belinda Ward  for "The Addition Expedition" from Sesame Street – PBS.

Now, the twosome are busy with their Bollywood projects which includes the background score of Kites, and the music of Teen Patti and Luck ,but are also open to more of Hollywood ones.
