Radio Mirchi pays tribute to Raj Kapoor

MUMBAI: Commemorating the actor’s 88th birth anniversary today (14 December 1924), Radio Mirchi will pay tribute to film industry’s ‘ultimate showman’ Raj Kapoor on its popular retro show ‘Purani Jeans’.

Hosted by RJ Anmol, the late night weekend show (Friday & Saturday, 9pm-1am) also has a weekly initiative ‘Bus Itna Sa Khwab Hai’ for listeners to get a glimpse of their favourite legends from Hindi cinema. As part of the initiative, RJ Anmol along with the actor’s sons Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor will travel in a branded Mirchi bus to witness glimpses from the life of Raj Kapoor inside the landmark studios followed by a halt at his much loved restaurant, concluding at Bandstand where his statue has been erected.

The activity will commence from 8pm and the live show will give listeners the chance to experience the moments, hear evergreen songs from the eternal star’s iconic movies, special anecdotes and some unheard aspects of  Kapoor. Listeners will also get a chance to win personalized merchandise autographed by the RK brothers in memory of their late father.

RJ Anmol said, “Raj Kapoor is truly an evergreen legend. There is no actor like Raj Kapoor today. Even after 60 years people watch and appreciate his films. It’s impossible to reproduce the same magic on silver screen like him. December 14 always marks as an important day in the history of Indian Cinema.”

Commencing the segment last week, ‘Bus itna sa khwab hai’ paid tribute to the bollywood’s superstar Dev Anand on his first death anniversary. In the weeks to come, the show will also pay homage to the musical idol of the golden era Mohammad Rafi and other legends of the film fraternity.
