MySpace COO, India mktg content director quit

MUMBAI: MySpace COO Amit Kapur is leaving the organisation, a few days after MySpace India marketing and content director Tarun Tripathi quit the company.

While Tripathi left the company just under a week ago citing personal reasons, news of the US based Kapur's exit has just percolated to the media via a company memo sent out by CEO Chris DeWolfe, who had promoted Kapur from VP of business development as part of MySpace's push to open its platform and go global. Kapur oversaw the launch of MySpace India in May 2008, and MySpace Music. He was also responsible for business development, strategic partnerships, and support operations across these platforms.

While the company plans to replace Kapur and two others who left with him (Jim Benedetto, SVP of Engineering and Steve Pearman, SVP of Product Strategy ) to begin their own start up, Tripathi's position will be changed to a 'slightly different role', and the name of his successor will be announced in two weeks, says MySpace India country head Hari Krishnan.

MySpace India has several plans for the year ahead, and plans a renewed focus on music and films in the coming months, says Krishnan. The music focused social networking site that launched in India last year, now boasts a registered base of just under a million currently, he says.

While the first year of launch was spent in building the team, the company plans to be more innovative this year. "The user base will definitely grow faster this year," believes Krishnan.
