MUMBAI: Avial walked away the winner of the night bagging six awards – Song of the year, Album of the year and Band of the year in both the popular choice and critics award categories at the Jack Daniels Annual Rock Awards 08-09.

The 4th Jack Daniel's Annual Rock Awards took place Thursday night at Mumbai's Hard Rock Caf?©  The host of the award ceremony was Luke Kenny who successfully managed to keep spirits high and energy rolling in the crowd throughout the night.

The night saw big names like Konkona Sen, Ranvir Shorey, Amrith Kiran, Hard Kaur, Rudy Wallang,  Sunita Rao, Milind  Deora,  Mohit Chauhan, Vishal Dadlani and Monica Dogra take the stage to present the awards.

The event kickstarted with the award for Best producer which went to Anupam Roy. Suraj Mani (Motherjane) and Monica Dogra (Shaa'ir + Func) walked away with Male and Female Vocalist of the year respectively. The Keyboardist of the year award went to Stefan K (Emperor Minge) and John Thomas (Motherjane) bagged the Drummer of the year award. Bruce Lee Mani from Thermal and a Quarter won the Guitarist of the year award and the Bassist of the year award went to Joshua Zoramliana (Boomarang). Hard Rock Caf?©, Mumbai was adjudged the Best rock venue.

The Tribute to Guitar Gods concert honoured some of the greatest guitarists of our times with Hypnatribe performing throughout the night with legends like Amit Dutta, Floyd Fernandez, Rex Vijayan and Rudy Wallang. The songs played on stage were tributes to music legends like Keith Richards, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Police, Deep Purple and others.

Awards were also given out to Rosemary for the Best upcoming band and Gary Lawyer was presented the Lifetime Achievement award at the end of the night.

There was a terrific build up to the rock awards with a series of Jack Daniel's – Rolling Stone – VH1 Tribute nights to legendary musicians over the last four months with mega events at rock haunts like Hard Rock Caf?© (Mumbai) , Elevate (Delhi) and Some Place Else (Kolkata). It gave a chance to rock lovers to pay tribute to legendary bands and participate in the new, interactive voting process that was in place for the Rock Awards.

The final five nominations in each category were assessed by a nine-member jury panel namely Uday Benegal(Indus Creed), Mahesh Tinaiker (Indus Creed), Milind Deora (Member of Parliament), Luke Kenny (Actor), Rudy Wallang (Soulmate), Nitin Malik (Parikrama), Anand Srinivasan (EMI-Virgin), Arjun Sankalia (Sony-BMG) and Gaurav Sharma (Fever 104 FM). The winners were then decided upon by a cumulative total of popular votes and jury's verdict.

This is the first time that the Jack Daniel's Rock awards Final has moved from Delhi to Mumbai.
