MUMBAI:  Over 50,000 fans were left spell bound after experiencing a sensational first day at Sunburn 2012.  Sunburn, Asia’s biggest music festival, was back for its 6th edition at Candolim Beach with 32 mind numbing acts led by Dutch Trance ace DJ Sander van Doorn along with Grammy Nominee Brian Transeau (BT) who brought down the house with two adrenaline pumping sets that set an electrifying tone for the 3 day electronic dance music festival.

Sunburn has partnered Youtube for LIVE streaming the festival in real time. Day 1 of the festival was streamed LIVE, over 1.2 million fans across 100 countries.

The festival’s slogan of Live Love Dance echoed through the atmosphere as top DJ’s from both India and across the world spun feet thumping, electronic dance beats that engulfed the senses making revelers shed their inhibitions and just dance! Kicking off proceedings for the maiden day was Faizal Rego + SU. Edits and Nawed Khan on the ‘Canvas,’ one of the 7 spectacular stages on display. Norman Doray took over the ‘Helia’ as he opened for renowned Dutch DJ and world number 18 Sander Van Doorn. Grammy nominee and Guinness world record holder BT meanwhile entranced the grooving masses with an awe-inspiring LIVE set. Ma Faiza, Sashanti, and Joof were some of the other artists who enthralled the crowds throughout the day.

Unlike previous years, Day 1 at Sunburn 2012 also featured a plethora of fresh, new artists along with the best commercial DJs from world over. On display today were Avalon, Sanjay Dutta, Anil Chawla, Firefly amongst many other young talented DJs.

Music was not the only thing on offer as Sunburnites heartily indulged in other recreational entertainment on offer.  Adventure enthusiasts challenged their skill by rock climbing on the artificial rock wall - a fixture at Sunburn. There was volley ball for Sunburnites interested in sports. And those looking to take to the skies did that through their professionally built kites. A new addition to the list of recreational activities was the music library or for some – a music readers paradise. The library which stocks books on EDM, other genres of music and artists was huge hit amongst music fans and readers.

Percept Limited joint managing director Shailendra Singh said, “In its sixth year, Sunburn has progressed from being Asia’s biggest and most desirable EDM festival, into a movement for social change. The journey to Sunburn 2012 has been an exhilarating ride for us and our partners. We’ve put together the biggest and loudest Sunburn yet and today’s scorching sets by DJ Sander Van Doom and BT are just a sign of things to come. So all you Sunburnites just brace yourself for some uninterrupted fun, meet new people in the fresh air with that beautiful soundtrack in the background. Forget the mall, forget the movie theaters – come outside and play! Make some new friends! Live. Love. Dance!”

Taking a step towards being more environment friendly, Sunburn Goa this year announced a ‘Leave No Trace’ initiative in association with Woodland. The initiative aims at educating Sunburn fans to be more environmentally conscious by spreading awareness and a sense of responsibility towards ones ecological footprint. The campaign involves a number of on-ground activities such as art installations at the venue made out of waste materials, a unique interactive tree structure inviting party-goers to participate in a cleanliness drive at the venue and eco-friendly displays and signage all around. The campaign also has Sunburn volunteers spreading the ‘Leave No Trace’ message amongst guests at venue. Along with recycling garbage cans for plastic, glass and other items spread across Candolim Beach, the alcohol glasses at Sunburn will have captions like “Trash Me” and “I Deserve a Bin”. Volunteers along with Sunburn enthusiasts will have the opportunity to clean the venue during and after the event, to restore the beach to its original beauty.

Along with the staggering lineup of artist, Sunburn this year will also sport world class safety and security arrangements. With a three level security cordon and ‘Zero Drug’, organizers aim to ensure that Sunburn fans experience the best of EDM artists and music in a safe and drug-free environment. In order to ensure no untoward incident, organizers of Sunburn 2012 have implemented a range of security measures – starting from a three level security check comprising metal detectors & sniffer dogs, physical frisking, and bands to identify ticket holders. There are three first aid rooms, on-call quick response and disaster management teams, lady guards and evacuation arrangements for 21000 people to exit the venue in eight minutes flat. No edible food of any kind can be entered inside the venue; Food and beverages are available to patrons at the venue itself. Apart from the security cordon at the entrance, under cover security staff patrols the venue for constant inspection and preventing illegal activities. Anyone found in violation is to be escorted out of the venue and would have their tickets/bands confiscated. Additional volunteers will also keep a vigil activities taking place around the venue.
